Von Wohlgroth bis Juch: Zürichs besetzte Areale in der Übersicht
Die Räumung des Juch-Areals während der Corona Pandemie hat für Unmut in der Zürcher Bevölkerung gesorgt. Die Geschichte des Juch ist keine Ausnahme. Denn die Liste der besetzten Areale Zürichs ist lang. Wir werfen einen Blick zurück auf die grössten.
Wohlgroth
Das Wohlgroth-Areal an der Josefstrasse 35, das vor fast 27 Jahren geräumt wurde, prägt die Geschichte der Besetzungen in der Stadt Zürich. Mit dem Graffiti der Ortsmarke «Zureich» direkt an den Gleisen des Hauptbahnhofs setzten die Besetzer*innen ein Anti-Kapitalistisches Statement. Dazumals war die zweijährige Besetzung die längste, die es in der Stadt je gegeben hatte.

Binz
Mit dem Ziel einen provisorischen Freestylepark zu errichten, kündigte man 2006 allen Mieter*innen des Binzareals. Als die Gebäude leer standen wurden sie kurz darauf besetzt. Das Freestylepark-Projekt wurde 2007 aufgrund von Verzögerungen durch Einsprachen eines Nachbarn aufgegeben. Über drei Jahre war das Fabrikareal an der Üetlibergstrasse 111/111a ein Zuhause für zahlreiche Menschen. Die Binz bot ihnen eine Existenz und Raum für die Verwirklichung ihrer Pläne. Gegen die Räumung gab es grosse Proteste und Demos.
Labitzke
Über Jahre hinweg hatte sich die teils gemietete, teils besetzte ehemalige Labitzke Farben AG an der Hohlstrasse in Altstetten in einen offenen Raum verwandelt. Das Projekt galt 25 Jahre lang als eines der grössten Kultur- und Wohnexperimente der Stadt Zürich. 2014 räumte die Stadt das Areal zu Gunsten der Mobino AG, die dort bauen wollte. Die Besetzer*innen verteilten sich in neue Räume in der ganzen Stadt. Teilweise sind die Splittergruppen bis heute noch aktiv; zu erkennen am Wortende «zke».
Shanty Town
Die Barackensiedlung wurde am 29. Juli 2005 am Sihlufer bei der Neuen Börse errichtet. Hintergrund der Aktion bildet die jüngste Repressionswelle gegen Freiräume und die zunehmende Ausgrenzung und Überwachung im öffentlichen Raum.
Koch-Areal
Das Koch-Areal vergisst man in der Aufzählung beinahe, weil es derzeit schon so zur Stadt dazugehört. Dabei handelt es sich um ein 30'000 Quadratmeter grosses ehemaliges Industriegelände in Altstetten. Im März 2013 wurden grosse Teile des Areals besetzt. Auch Teile der Autonomen Schule Zürich (ASZ) sind dort angesiedelt. Die Besetzer*innen sind trotz Konflikten mit der Stadt und der UBS, welche das Areal gekauft hat, bis heute dort geblieben, wohnen dort und betreiben seit Jahren ein vielseitiges Kulturprogramm. Die Stadt plant dort eine grosse Überbauung mit günstigem Wohnraum, die Tage der Besetzer*innen sind also gezählt.

Platzspitz: Parc sans Frontiers
Als Zeichen gegen eine repressive Asylpolitik besetzten Aktivist*innen im Mai 2018 den Platzspitz-Park für mehrere Tage. Es handelte sich dabei um eine der grössten Besetzungsaktionen in den letzten Jahren. Das Ziel der Besetzung war einen repressionsfreien Raum zu kreieren. Es sollte ein Gegenmoment zum sonst von eben dieser Repression beherrschten Platzspitz’ geschaffen werden.
Pfingsweidpark
Die Besetzung des Pfingsweidparks im Mai 2019 ist die Nachfolgerin des «Park sans Frontiers». Im Zentrum standen die neuen Bundesasylzentren - allen voran jenes, das vis a vis des Pfingstweidparks gebaut worden ist. Im März war die neue Revision des Asylgesetztes in Kraft getreten. Diese bringt mit sich, dass Abweisungen und Ausschaffungen schneller und effizienter eingeführt werden sollen, nicht aber die Aufnahmen. Den Kern der Verfahrensbeschleunigen sollen die sogenannten Bundesasylzentren bilden. Die Besetzer*innen bezeichnen diese Bundeszentren bewusst als Lager, weil «darin Menschen vom Rest der Gesellschaft isoliert, räumlich konzentriert und anderen Gesetzen und Rechten unterstellt werden». An der Besetzung gab es Diskussionen und ein Kulturprogramm zu diesem Thema.
Juch Areal
Die Baracken des ehemaligen Asylzentrums Juch wurde Ende Oktober besetzt. Diese Aktion folgte auf die Pfingsweidparkbesetzung und richtete sich ebenfalls gegen das Bundesasylzentrum an der Duttweilerstrasse in Zürich West. Das Areal wurde im Mai 2020 von der Stadtpolizei geräumt. Es soll vorübergehend für die Baustelle des neuen Eishockeystadions genutzt werden.
Altstetten Grimselstrasse 18 und 20, Saumackerstrasse 67 und 69
Die Besetzer*innen des Juch haben am 20. Juni 2020 als Antwort auf die Räumung neue Liegenschaften besetzt. Das Areal in Altstetten ist hiermit Zürichs jüngste Besetzung.
