Jung, innovativ, riskant – Startups müssen nicht immer aus dem Silicon Valley kommen, auch in Zürich gibt es ganz spannende Jungunternehmen!

Die typische Startup-Person: Jung, gestylt und in der ganzen Stadt vernetzt. Gearbeitet wird rund um die Uhr, Müdigkeit ist ein Fremdwort und man ist stets bei bester Laune. Die Business Idee scheint gross und die Ressourcen eher knapp. Das unter die Achsel geklemmte Macbook darf natürlich nicht fehlen. So das gängige Startup Klischee. Aber was genau macht ein Startup zu einem Startup? Jung zu sein und eine Firma zu gründen alleine reicht nicht, um den Startup Status zu bekommen.
 
Startups sind junge, noch nicht etablierte Unternehmen mit einer innovativen Geschäftsidee, sie werden mit geringem Startkapital gegründet, wachsen dann aber ziemlich zügig und beschaffen sich externe Gelder. Ein wesentlicher Unterschied zur «normalen» Firmengründung ist das Wachstumspotenzial. Ausserdem spielt das Alter oft eine Rolle, gerade bei Startup Wettbewerben fallen Unternehmen, die älter als fünf Jahre sind, oft aus dem Raster.

Spricht man von Startups aus Zürich, fallen oft die Namen On und Ava. Die Rede ist von Schuhen, die Laufen wie auf Wolken versprechen und einem Armband für Frauen, welches die fruchtbaren Tage ermittelt. Ob die beiden dem Startup Begriff noch würdig sind, kann diskutiert werden, jedenfalls haben sie grossen Erfolg und sind weit über Zürich hinausgewachsen. Werfen wir den Blick doch mal auf die Startup Landschaft Zürichs!

1. Zürichips 
Das vierköpfige Team möchte Food Waste bekämpfen, also rettet es Brot. Genau, die Zürichips werden nicht aus Kartoffeln gemacht. In der Schweiz werden etliche Lebensmittel weggeworfen und Brot ist eines der am meisten verschwendeten Produkte. Das Startup, welches im Jahr 2018 gegründet wurde, verzeichnet bereits 188 Kilogramm gerettete Laibe.

2. Capacity 
Capacity ist ein 2015 gegründeter gemeinnütziger Verein, der Geflüchteten und Migrant*innen hilft, ein eigenes Unternehmen zu gründen. Also ein Startup, welches Startups gründet. Ihre Vision: Eine Gesellschaft, die offen für neue Ideen ist und in welcher jede*r sein*ihr Potential und seine*ihre Fähigkeiten einbringen kann, unabhängig von Geschlecht, Nationalität und Religion.

3. WormUp 
Jedes Jahr landen in der Schweiz über 500'000 Tonnen Bioabfall in der Mülltonne. Einfacher ausgedrückt: Wir füllen jährlich fünfmal den Prime Tower mit Kompost, dieser wird nicht recycelt, sondern einfach verbrannt. WormUp hat sich daher im Jahr 2015 ein ambitioniertes Ziel gesetzt: Kein Bioabfall soll mehr im normalen Abfall landen. Erreichen wollen sie dies mit einem Wurmkompostiersystem für Zuhause. Der Bioabfall wird mit Hilfe von Würmern zu einem nährstoffreichen Biodünger verarbeitet. Dünger und Hausregenwürmer in einem!

4. OÏOÏOÏ Baby 
Das System ist simpel: Babykleider zum Mieten. Macht Sinn, denn Babys wachsen bekanntlich schnell und Kleider müssen regelmässig neue gekauft werden. OÏOÏOÏ verspricht saisonale Biokleider für Babys, werden sie zu klein, kann man sie zurücksenden und neue bestellen. Das Startup ist gerade eben gestartet, wir sind gespannt.
