7 Gründe, warum Zürich cooler ist als Berlin
Während es Schweizer*innen scharenweise nach Berlin zieht, tummeln sich in Zürich immer mehr Berliner*innen. Für viele unverständlich. Für unsere Redaktorin Andrea ein klarer Fall. Für sie gilt auch nach siebeneinhalb Jahren Zürich: Es gibt kein Zurück.
Wenn ich Zürcher*innen erzähle, woher ich komme, ist die Verwunderung in der Regel gross: «Wie kann man Berlin für das hier verlassen?» Keine Frage, Berlin ist eine tolle Stadt, an deren Geschichte keine andere herankommt, deren kulturelle Vielfalt kaum zu übertreffen ist und gegen die das Zürcher Nachtleben einem Kindergeburtstag gleicht. Aber Berlin am Wochenende ist nicht Berlin im Alltag. Wer in Zürich lebt, darf sich glücklich schätzen. Zwar ist mein Blick nicht mehr ganz so rosarot wie zu Beginn, doch gute Gründe hier zu bleiben, gibt es immer noch sieben.
1. Das Kleinsein.
Mein Elternhaus in Neukölln und die Wohnung meines Freundes in Wilmersdorf trennen 14,5 km. Zum Vergleich: Das Stadion Letzigrund und die Rote Fabrik sind 5,4 km voneinander entfernt. In Berlin fährt man nicht von A nach B, man unternimmt Tagesausflüge und vergeudet dabei wertvolle Lebenszeit. Ein spontanes «Um sieben auf der Bäcki» gibt es nicht. Es sei denn man ist zugezogen und schafft es, Freund*innen, Partner*in und Job in einem Kiez anzusiedeln. Zürich ist winzig. Alles ist mit dem Velo erreichbar. Und da der Paradeplatz und die Langstrasse in direkter Nachbarschaft existieren, kann man sich auch nur schwer in Szenen zurückziehen, die Gefahr laufen den Rest der Welt auszublenden.
2. In Zürich ist der Zufall zuhause.
In Berlin begegnest du deinen Freund*innen nicht auf der Strasse. Es gibt zu viele Menschen, zu viele Orte. Meine hohe Erwartungshaltung an den Zufall wurde von der Fernsehserie GZSZ geprägt, die seit 6700 Folgen ein völlig verzerrtes Bild vom Berliner Grossstadtleben vermittelt. Dort treten die Protagonisten vor die Haustür und fallen einander ständig in die Arme. Heute weiss ich: Nur Zürich kann das und macht den Alltag mit jedem unerwarteten Hoi oder jeder unvorhergesehenen Umarmung schöner.

3. Berlin hat Brandenburg. Zürich die ganze Schweiz.
Eine Stadt ist nur so lebenswert wie ihr Umland. Das von Berlin ist flach, unspektakulär und auch politisch alles andere als ansprechend. Zürich hat das Glarnerland. Den Grindelwald. Das Engadin. Wer in Zürich lebt, muss nie wieder in ein Flugzeug steigen. Und dank dem steilen Denzlerweg fühlt man sich – zumindest als Berlinerin – auch auf Stadtgebiet wie im Hochgebirge.

4. In Zürich kannst du atmen. Und deine Hände spüren.
Jedesmal wenn du denkst in Zürich wäre es kalt, ist Berlin kälter. Und jedes mal wenn du denkst in Zürich brennt die Sonne, bringt Berlin dich um. Berlin ist einfach das Hinterletzte, wenn es um Temperaturen geht.
5. Du kannst den Boden sehen. Den Boden!
Die Limmat ist für Berliner*innen eine Offenbarung. Die eigenen Hände, Füsse, ja sogar den Flussboden kann man sehen. In der deutschen Hauptstadt werden bei Starkregen Fäkalien direkt in den Spreekanal geleitet, ohne jemals eine Kläranlage passiert zu haben. Die Spree ist braun. Und irgendwie traurig. Und wo wir gerade bei Boden sind: Der aalglatte Zürcher Asphalt ist ein Segen für alles, was rollt – vor allem Skateboards!

6. In Zürich kannst du etwas bewegen. Oder dich zumindest so fühlen.
Es mag Wunschdenken sein, aber wenn man in Zürich einen Verein, eine Initiative oder ein Projekt lanciert, hat man das Gefühl, die Stadt zu erreichen. Ein paar Wildplakate in der Langstrassen-Unterführung, ein paar Flyer in der richtigen Bar und zwei, drei Shares auf Facebook, fertig. In Berlin wird man vom Grundrauschen verschluckt und verliert die Motivation, bevor man es überhaupt versucht hat. Ein Phänomen, mit dem vermutlich jede Grossstadt kämpft. Ob Berlin, London oder Athen – meist braucht es Jahre bis man sich orientiert hat und egal wie viele Ecken man entdeckt, das Gefühl von Anonymität steckt tief im Wesen jeder Grossstadt. Zürich ist der seltene Sonderfall: Ein überschaubares Dorf, gefüllt mit dem kulturellen Angebot einer Metropole.
7. Am Zenit des Wohlstands wird sichtbar was wirklich wichtig ist.
Zürich ist reich. Verdammt reich. Doch das Tolle am reich sein sind nicht die Fuffies, die man durch den Club werfen könnte, sondern die Zeit, die man sich damit kaufen kann. In Berlin können die wenigsten Teilzeit arbeiten, ohne unters Existenzminimum zu rutschen. Die Hälfte aller Zürcher*innen verdient bei Vollzeitarbeit mehr als 7820 Franken. Ja selbst das unterste Lohnviertel kommt durchschnittlich auf 5200 Franken. Die Erkenntnis, dass Glück und Geld nur bedingt zusammenhängen, ist im Wohlstand spürbarer als in der Theorie. Zürich ist eine heile Welt, die manchmal kaum auszuhalten ist und deshalb dazu anregt, den Status Quo zu hinterfragen. Wenn man also bereit ist Geld gegen Zeit zu tauschen, können hier tolle Dinge entstehen.
